I have one day a week I do my wash. We all have enuf underwear and socks to last 7 days, and we all have plenty of other clothes to last also. When my kids turn 14 or so (inc. my sons!) I teach them to do their own wash. From that point on they are on their own. If they want to do wash once a month its up to them! Sometimes on the weekend I mihgt throw in a batch of Kirks jeans etc. but if he wants more than that he knows to do it himself. Works for us really well snf simplifys things for me. I'm all about that!
No secrets here! I lose socks, fall behind, but definitely don't allow clothes that I'm not ok with for any reason! We try to keep socks in pairs until they go in the washer. That seems to work pretty well! I need to makeover my laundry room so it is pretty and inviting! Hmmm...that's about 5 projects down on the list! Well, one of these days!!
Curious to see what others have to say!
Blessings,
Becky
With two toddlers and a husband who wears 2-3 outfits a day, I do laundry every other day. I haven't done it, but I have a friend who puts each of her kid's socks in their own delicated laundry bag. Then all of their socks stay together. Now that I have 2 boys 18 months apart, I think I'll try that.
It's just me, my husband and daughter so I probably do less laundry than most but it still is a thorn in my side at times. I do my sheets and towels on Mondays and everything else I do as the hamper fills up - probably twice a week usually. I do ALOT of separating-sheets, white towels, colored towels, darks, whites, brights, lights & white socks. I keep the socks together until I do them. Any 'special' socks - dress socks, my daughter's favorites - go in the lingerie bag- the rest get tossed in and sorted when done washing & drying (always fun).
Anything of my daughter's that I hate - you know, the things you wonder 'what was I thinking when I bought that?' gets washed and put at the bottom of the pile in the 'clean' basket and stays there as long a possible - preferrably until she outgrows it. :)
This was a great post - I am always interested in what works for others.
I have four boys and no secrets about laundry. It will never be done- that's all I know.
Well, I confess, all 4 children are out on their own. My sweetie and I each do our own laundry, sheets and towels...so now I do mine.
I know...pretty slack, huh? Well...when you are 52...
Oh, I use a Dollar Store bought $1.00 "delicates" bag (with zipper) to keep all sock together.
And TM, above is correct, it will never be done. Smiles.
A few years ago, whilst teaching at a boarding school, a parent came to see me and whilst chatting I asked him the housekeeping was going, as his wife had gone to see her mother who was ill, leaving him with 4 boys to look after. He said it was going fine, but the worst task was the laundry. He had lost socks, could not match up socks and it was all just a nightmare for him. So he made a decision, he dumped the lot into the rubbish bin and went out and bought 48 pairs of black socks. He said, at least that way it did not matter if they were lost or did not match up and from that day forth they would all wear black socks. Such a great story.
I don't have such problems, my husband does all the laundry and ironing twice a week. OK we do not have small children or infact any children living with us now. When my son was at home everything had to be ironed just perfect and he had about four changes of t. shirt everyday. I very quickly taught him how to use the iron.
Hope this helps and love your blog.
Okies.. so for the socks of many peeps.. get a large lingerie bag and write with black marker each name and also "just white socks" or "all other socks" so the bag should read.. Rebecca's just white socks! When she gets undressed for the night the socks get placed into the bag.. and one for her undies too! When wash day come for whites..gab the white only bags from each room.. toss into the wash zipped closed.. launder and dry.. bam.. you've got clean socks.. and to help with the housework, the children can fold their own socks and place them in the drawers.
Sheets are done each and every Thursday here and towels are done Saturday night (after baths) and Wednesday day. All kitchen towels are washed seperate with hot water, bleach and no fabric softener! This breaks up the mounds of laundry that just appear out of no where and helps me with a routine. http://www.homeandbeyond.com/prod-0029770.html?zmae=Live&zmam=86451217&zmas=17&zmac=49&zmap=ku-0029770-00/
First off before I forget--Did you know your blogging/Google account is set up without links or a photo, when you follow someone? I can not click on you to get to your blog so unless you leave me a message I can't let you know about big, exciting things going on at my blog. If you want to fix it you have to go in to the Google account (Dashboard) and add links and a picture in your google. Then you have to go to the blogs you follow and change it in each one-believe it's better to do it now, the more the longer it takes.
Second I sent you an e-mail but it came back undeliverable. I don't think you've dropped by my blog lately because you need to go over and read my Saturday post.

The link is there now.
I don't know if you followed the way I told you or something else. I will tell you the first time I went in and fixed the problem it switched it to my picture and everything looked great but within zbout 3 days almost all of them had switched back and I had to go do it all over again-THANK YOU very much GOOGLE---ARGGGH!

About the socks... I regard them as disposable. For my son, I buy them at costco, all exactly the same. It's always easy to find the match that way. If you get white socks you can wash them with bleach... :0)
One load a day alternating between whites, colors, darks. Always with Gain orig fabric softern, which is still the best, a nd Oxiclean liquid. I was in fashion professionally, so outfits that are scary never darken our door. Finally, socks, there is a net bag for them hanging on each hamper...
