Years ago, I had the same problem with one of my stoves and I fond these inserts specifically for this problem. It was in Regal Gifts http://www.regalgreetings.com/view-Regal-JanFeb-Catalogue.cfm . If you look through catalogue it's page 34 Top right hand corner (Oven Spill guard). I'm not sure if you can get this in US but You will at least get an idea for a solution. Good luck!

Google is only showing the first picture so I can't see the others but have you thought of adding little piece of wood and trim to the bottom and then the top of the counter area. hopefully I can see the other pictures later.

My first look, I thought that's my stove. But yours is gas, and mine has a smooth glass top. Also mine fits tightly. I am begging for a new microwave to go over mine. Hopefully you can figure out a solution to your dilemma.

Goodness, I wouldn't know what to suggest, but looking at what Bette said, I'm hoping you can order what she suggested?

Going off what Bette suggested, I just searched for oven spill guard... Amazon has a few styles available!

Feed your range some grits and bacon for breakfast, lunch and dinner.. that'll fatter her up soon enough.. (heehee) only teasin.. but brownies.. now that's something I don't eat.. of course you know I just slap them right to my thighs.

Not a clue stephiepoo as to what you need to do.. but I do read some great suggestions so far.

Good luck
and with love,

Hmmm...How about having your great hubby use strips of copper or aluminum flashing to bend up and over the gaps? I have no idea how, I just know that such a thing does exist!

Oh goodness, that's a tough one! What about adding those cabinet spacers to either side of the front and staining to match your cabinets. Then taking some flat pieces of trim to go next to the stove on top and paint those white to match the stove?

Oh the horror! I had to look away! Actually, it doesn't look that bad, but what a nightmare with food and utencils falling in those gaps. And how does one cook a large turkey in a skinny stove?

I think you should use wood trim. Remove the stove and attach a piece of wood cut to fit the width of the gap along the counter edge and the cabinet face. You can paint and/or stain it to blend in with the counter and cabinets or paint it white to blend in with the stove. Good luck!

Oh, that is irritating. That is one of those things that would make me sigh every time I walked into the room.
First I was going to suggest skirted cabinets on the bottom which is so cute but then you are left with the top gaps so I am in agreement about the wood trim. If you found something cute/decorative perhaps you could glue it elsewhere too to tie the look in.
Wish I could come over and help you in person. I love this kind of stuff - just gave my dishwasher a makeover last month. Sometimes you just gotta get creative.

I like Cheri's idea of the wood molding...I know...it would bother me too...smiles.

I think the splash gaurd on the top between the gap from the stove and the counter would work nicely. I also think you could find some wood trim to match your cabinets and glue or nail down the front to hid the gap from the front view. Good luck with this! I heard they may have a 'appliance' stimulus starting soon, maybe it would be time to 'Craig's List' this bad boy and upgrade? Good luck!

I feel your pain. I went from "skinny" to "fat" and had to endure cutting and shifting of cabinets and have a similar nightmare. I vote for some form of "false" cabinet front pieces cut to fit the bottom face area, and then the gap drip spacers for the counter surface area.
Not sure how "crafty" you are, maybe you could fashion some form of tile area in the counter gaps?

No suggestions here, but I see someone suggested inserts. I hope that works out for you. I might even get some myself!

your countertop is the perfect height for the spill guard! I bought 2 from Home Depot for $8.00 a piece (brushed stainless steel --- sooo pretty) but my stove sat up too high and I sadly had to return them (then the other day I saw that my legs were cracked up on my stove-- now I might go back and get the guards!!)

As for the sides, some wood stained the color of your cabinets, would be nice. I have to do that with mine.

Here's a link to a picture of the guard:

Hi Stephanie! Thanks for all the sweet comments on my blog. I'm glad we "met" last year and I've enjoyed your blog. Looking forward to 2010!

As far as the stove... I don't have anything really to add more than what's already been suggested. I looked at the Regal oven spill guards that were suggested and that seems like a good idea, combined with the suggestion of staining some wood inserts to match the cabinets and putting those on the sides. It's a tough problem. Wish the suggestion of just feeding it grits and bacon would work! :-)

It truly looks fine to me. truly. I'm trying to guess what you didn't want to say... that's what is consuming my mind right now... Is it skinny a.. stove? Did I get it right? That's all I can think about... truly.
